EAT, PRAY, LOVE (R. Murphy, 2010)

Liz (Julia Roberts) has everything: a loving husband, a beautiful home in New York, an exciting job. But one day finds himself kneeling on the floor of his bathroom, crying and begging God's divorce from her husband and decides to embark on a journey that will take in Italy, India, Indonesia.

It 'almost impossible to talk about Eat, Pray, Love without taking into account the previous literature. The best-selling autobiography of Elizabeth Gilbert has a fluidity and richness in the movie are not even remotely touched upon. However, the effort to do it is to take account of the cinematographic work in itself.

From the very first scene gives the impression to attend a stylization of the characters over the characters. Billy Crudup in the role of Liz's husband, is a kind of baby unconscious that does not fit the elegance of her partner. The director makes it easy to understand why the woman feels dissatisfied, Minimize all existential doubts, depression and guilt (in the book) before and after the divorce.

Liz decides to leave for a trip that will focus primarily on research of gastronomic pleasure, so physical, in Italy, spiritual in India and, finally, in Indonesia, will attempt to reconcile the two experiences under one found equilibrium. Expectations are exciting if it were not for Italy, Roma in particular, loses its charm in a performance of note-book (with all the static and decadent aestheticism of the cards) on a people whose background is moving caciarone and-nothing. The family is a value and retrograde stereotype that does not accept the divorce and which remains a safe beach landing for lunch on Sunday. The "male" chasing the Italian tourists shouting to 'bbona ! And, in utter ruin, the average Italian likes to say Here we live the "dolce far niente", food and sex gay .

In India, the main character goes through in the car, afraid, a poor and crowded street and then moved onto a more similar ashram a hippy community (as you noted giustamen F. Fiorentino in a review of the film) than a place of prayer. Meditation results in endless endless reminders about why you should meditate, a sort of memento mori thrown there by chance at regular intervals. And all the inner torment of the Texan Richard (Richard Jenkins) is told in a moment of self-pity.

Last but not least, the protagonist in Bali, now in sexual abstinence for at least eight months, is an enchanted place where the calls to "enjoy life" are different and come from various sources. It will be an unreal Javier Bardem, (too good, too good, too sweet, too little Brazilian in the Italian dubbing of note) to sway him in his hypothetical balance.

Summing up, one gets the impression of watching a movie too long (133 ') but which is struggling to give the story a credible period of time. Let me explain. Time seems suspended in limbo because of stereotypes, searching for a pretext to make it meaningful and psychologically intimate work undertaken in its intentions but by no means felt. We are allowed to absorb into a kind of atmosphere that makes vacations in full by the places visited as possible expressions of a feeling, reducing them to mere fillers to justify to the course of events.

A note of credit goes to the delicacy with which Julia Roberts plays the role of Liz. Another of Javier Bardem who utters the phrase that every woman wants to hear: You are
slim and stylish from afar, but up close six soft and tasty.

(Nino Manfredi would have said The woman, dressed them adda 'na fronn, stripped adda is tuna )

RECIPE
Surely there could be a whim to take a cue from the film for any Italian recipe. But the advice most appropriate-in turn proposed to my mother-is to drown in a nice tiramisu. An Italian dessert, tasty, goes out to all women willing to not feel guilty after an authoritative bellyful of calories, provided that a new Javier Bardem could then console ourselves with a smile that sentence above. Forget Julia Roberts pretending to put on weight (only buy jeans too tight to let us believe), and enjoy the sweet.

TIRAMISU '

ingredients
FOR Savoy

160g flour 6 eggs 4 egg yolks and 130g sugar

FOR FILLING

6 eggs 500g mascarpone
coffee taste
cocoa powder to taste 150g
sugar

carefully Divide the egg yolks from the whites, retaining in a bowl only 4 of them. United 100 grams of sugar and vanilla to the yolks and, with the help of an electric mixer, mix well until total dissolution of the sugar mixture is light and fluffy. Place the 4 egg whites in a bowl with a pinch of salt and mount until stiff, then gradually add the remaining sugar to mix well with egg whites. Stir gently and slowly to the mixture to egg yolks, then add the flour to the mixture by dropping it slowly, stirring gently with a wooden spoon to mix it perfectly. At the end you will get a mixture swollen and hard at the same time, qualities that will enable cookies to maintain the characteristic shape during cooking. Lined the bake oven (or u na pan) with a sheet of baking paper, fill a pastry bag with the mixture previously obtained and, taking it out of a smooth nozzle diameter of about 1 cm, made of long strips about 10 cm well-spaced .

Prepare the coffee, so just enough to soak the ladyfingers, pour into a bowl (if you want zuccheratelo to taste) and let cool. Whip the egg yolks with half the sugar until you get a nice mixture is light and creamy. Work then (not too long) the mascarpone with a whisk (or wooden spoon) until creamy and no lumps together always beating, the mixture of eggs and sugar preparation above. Whip egg whites until now with a pinch of salt, add the remaining half of sugar and, with a wooden spoon, add them gradually and gently to the mixture of mascarpone and egg yolks, so you got the cream of the tiramisu. Put the biscuits in a container and started to wet them with coffee, should be well soaked but not completely soaked. Cover the ladyfingers soaked with a layer of mascarpone cream layer with a spatula. Sprinkle the surface with cocoa powder. Then provides the second layer of ladyfingers, if you have them the first vertically arranged, they put them horizontally (and vice versa). Ricoprireteli with the remaining cream what level, finished this sprinkle with plenty of cocoa powder the surface of your Tiramisu. Store in the fridge for a few hours to shrink the cake.
